Platinum Day in Moscow the 20th of September, Moscow

First ever PLATINUM DAY in Russia, starting with a press conference, took place on the 20th of September during Moscow International jewellery exhibition "Jeweller-2001". The event has been organized by Russian Platinum Council and Jewellery Platinum Union, who's main objective is to unite the efforts of Russian jewellery companies and public organizations in order to promote jewellery platinum on internal and international markets. These events are a part of a special project to develop Russian market of platinum group metals and for the revival of Russia's economy.

The idea of this particular campaign was well expressed by Yuri KOTLYAR, the Chairman of Russian Platinum Council and the managing director of MMC "Norilsk Nickel" in his appeal to the market's participants. "In the new Millennium one should be well aware of the fact that every third platinum jewellery piece on the world's jewellery market, originates from Russia.The best jewellers worldwide work with Russian platinum, exporting their masterpieces to the markets of United States, Japan, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France, India, China, Hong Kong and Thailand. We are delighted to announce that Russian jewellers are joining them, by making their first steps in this exclusive industry. They posses all the skill and knowledge to be one of world's leaders in the platinum market".

This campaign is being supported by many leading Russian as well as international companies and organizations that work on this market.

Some of the first Russian companies expressing interest in such venture were Jewellery Group "Adamas", Jewellery Company "Almaz-Holding", JSC "Ekaterinburg Non-Ferrous Metals Processing Plant", Trade and Exhibition Centre "ALROSA Almazny Dvor", Jewellery House "ERMY", OJSC "Uveliry Urala", OJSC "Russkiye Samotzviety", OJSC "Goulidov Krasnoyarsk Non-Ferrous Metals Plant", Jewellery House "Peter Privaloff", Kostroma Jewellery Plant, "Russian Jewelery Manufacture", Moscow Jewellery Group, "Moscow Special Alloys Processing Plant,"OJSC "Norilsk Nisckel".

All these companies as well as their products are being presented in the 1ST edition of annual informational catalogue "RUSSIAN PLATINUM COLLECTION". The catalogue was produced by Russian platinum Council and Jewellery Platinum Union in association with "Norilsk Nickel", "Johnson Matthey", Association Jewellers Guild of Russia. The Catalogue is to be distributed in retail network and amongst the buyers of jewellery platinum in Russia and in other CIS countries, and to be send to companies and organizations interested in the development of Russian platinum jewellery market as well as to the head offices of International Jeweller's Confederation CIBJO, and Platinum Guild International and its branches in USA, UK, Italy, Japan, China, Germany, India and China. It will also be distributed during Russian and international exhibitions, conferences and other events related to jewellery industry.

The presentation of the Catalogue "RUSSIAN PLATINUM COLLECTION" took place during the Platinum Day in Sokolniki. The second presentation will be held on the 1st of November during the Fourth International Business Conference "Market of Precious Metals and Gemstones: its state and future prospects" (MPMG-2001).

Followed the Catalogue's presentation was the official announcement of a new annual platinum jewellery competition, with its future winners announced during "Jeweller" exhibitions, as well as "Discover Platinum" seminar with special guest speakers of "Johnson Matthey" and Platinum Guild International.

This seminar was the first of its kind in Russia. It covered world's tendencies in platinum jewellery industry marketing program for platinum jewellery products in Russia. Attendees of the seminar, interested in development of retail and wholesale networks in this particular area were offered professional advice on how to sell and promote platinum jewellery. Such seminars dedicated to Russian platinum are planned to be practiced abroad as well as in Russia.
