RBC: ALROSA plans to launch a joint venture for diamonds cutting in Armenia
JSC ALROSA is considering the possibility to launch a joint venture for diamonds cutting in Armenia. This information was provided by the Head of jewellery and gemstones department of the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development of Armenia Gagik Mkrtchyan. As it has been reported by ARMINFO, Armenian company DCA – a leader of the sector in the country – was chosen as a partner. It is highly likely that the President of ALROSA Sergey Vybornov will visit Armenia in July to estimate the planned project.
Now ALROSA is ready to supply Armenian cutters with raw small diamonds. Since 2006 Armenian cutting companies have stopped buying diamonds from ALROSA due to high prices. In 2006 diamonds production in Armenia reduced by 22% - down to $242.2 mln.
