Results of ALROSA Polished Diamond Auction in Tokyo
On January 25, 2007 in the framework of IJT 2007 – International Jewellery Tokyo ALROSA held its third auction to sell diamonds cut and polished by its Brillianty ALROSA (ALROSA Brilliants) division. The auction was organized in association with the Tokyo Diamond Exchange. The bidders competed for lots comprised of 0.53-31.22 carat loose diamonds with GIA (Gemological Institute of America) grading reports. The aggregate starting price of the lots amounted to USD 2 260 thousand. 37 companies from Japan, USA, Belgium and Israel participated in the auction as bidders. 33 lots were sold for the total amount of USD 2 180 thousand. Most in demand were 2-carater diamonds and up. The largest of the diamonds (fancy yellow, radiant cut) sold at the auction weighed 31.22 carats. In January 2006 0.3-22 carat diamonds with an aggregate starting price of USD 1.6 million were offered for sale at the auction. 23 companies participated as bidders. Altogether 63 diamonds were sold for USD 580 thousand. In 2005 polished diamonds ranging from 1 to 22 carats with the aggregate starting value of USD 1.5 million were auctioned. There were 20 bidders. 11 diamonds were sold for USD 410 thousand. The largest of the diamonds weighed 18. 93 carats.
