Kaliningrad government worked out the programme of the regional amber sector’s development by 2010. This information was provided by RIA Novosti.

As a result of the programme it is expected that new amber processing companies will be launched and the regional amber production will grow up from RR 600 mln up to RUR 3.5 bln.

Now Kaliningrad region has 90% of the world amber resources. However, the world leaders in amber production are Poland and Lithuania.

The key enterprise of amber processing in Kaliningrad region is Kaliningrad Amber Complex, but it is a bankrupt – its credit debt is over RUR 10 mln. In 2005 the Complex produced 201 tons of amber.
