On September 1 the President of Yakutia met De Beers executives in Mirny city. According to YASIA, the delegation of De Beers Group consisted of its managing director Gary Ralfe, Diamond Trading Company (DTC) managing director, Gareth Penny, De Beers executive director of strategy and business development MLS de Sousa "Ollie" Oliveira, executive director of global mining and exploration, Edward Dowling, and other company representatives.

De Beers representatives are to tour the First Module facilities of the Lomonosov mine in northwest Russia, and ALROSA's operations in West Yakutia. "The long-lasting business cooperation of the two companies has had an important effect on the development of the world diamond market," ALROSA's statement read.

In December 2004, ALROSA and De Beers submitted a letter to the European Commission (EC) committing to gradually reduce their trade in rough diamonds. Presently, ALROSA and De Beers are waiting for the completion of the EC inquiry into the ALROSA-De Beers trade relationship.
