As it has been reported by Kommersant, the president of ALROSA Company Alexander Nichiporuk has announced about the intention of the company to diversify the business: it intends to stop mining at two diamond pits and to pay attention to gas and coal projects. Russian diamond monopolist was said to negotiate on these issues with YUKOS and Gazprom companies.

The fact that ALROSA gives up its diamond projects is a real sensation as about eighteen months ago the government of ALROSA approved the plan of Udachnaya pit construction that was aimed to become one of the largest in the world.

Later it turned out that at the beginning of the year Yakut authorities offered ALROSA to consider the possibility of buying Sakhaneftegas Company’s assets. ALROSA started negotiations with the company’s shareholders and they were successful but then the situation changed. Now JSC ALROSA does not plan to buy the assets of Sakhaneftegas, as reported in ALROSA press release.
