The participants of the I Russian Jewellers Congress approved the resolution about the current situation in Russian jewellery market. All the participants agree that Russia has:

-significant precious metals and gemstones resources and developed mining industry,

-modern jewellery sector with longstanding traditions,

-Russian jewellery is of great demand in domestic and world markets.

The participants of the Congress state that:

As a result of measures taken by the federal and regional authorities since 2000 Rssian jewellery production and sales have been growing stably, jewellery export is in the process of developing and increasing, and the number of jewellery market participants is growing.

Jewellers Guild of Russia and other jewellery association created by the market participants function successfully and serve to protect the rights of jewellery sector in Russia.

However, there are certain factors that have negative influence on the further market development and they include high cost price of the domestic jewellery as compared to that made abroad due to high taxes and customs, significant amount of illegal jewellery, redundant State control over the sector, negative image of jewellery market etc.

In this connection the participants of the I Jewellery Congress addressed the federal authorities and the Government of Russia to make the necessary amendments to the current legislation in order to assist in solving the problems mentioned.
