On April 15, 2005, MMC Norilsk Nickel board approved the strategy of the company aimed at consolidation of Polus company and its subsidiaries gold assets and 20% of Gold Fields owned by Norilsk Nickel. This information was provided by the MMC press service. In case of the strategy successful implementation a new large independent gold mining will be created.

In 2004 Polus Company and its subsidiaries produced 1.1 mln oz of gold. On April 1, 2005, the resources of the company are estimated at 40.8 mln oz.
