According to the programme of jewellery sector and gemstone production development for 2004-2006 approved by Armenian government in 2003, there will be an increase of gemstones export up to $400 mln and golden jewellery export — up to $100 mln by the end of 2006.

Gagik Mkrtchan, the head of gemstones and jewellery department of the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development of Armenia informed that 2004 was a failure fro Armenian diamonds cutting industry. This year 30% increase is expected to take place in the sector.

Mr Mkrtchan reported as well that in 2005 jewellers conference would be organised in Armenia. The conference will be supported by Jewellers Union of Armenia and it will welcome both local and foreign jewellers. In the context of the event an exhibition will take place. Besides, in May 2005 the traditional Show of Jewellers Association of Armenia will be held in Yerevan.
