On Friday the deputy chairman of MMC Norilsk Nickel board M. Finsky informed that the company would participate in the auction for Bamskoe deposit selling in Amursk region. The resources of the deposit are estimated at 2.6 mln oz. Experts state that Norilsk Nickel is going to enlarge its resources base at the expenses of its competitors.

Till the recent time gold mining sector of Russia has been geographically divided: Norilsk Nickel has worked in Krasnoyarsk krai, Irkutsk and Magadan regions, Peter Hambro – Amursk region, Highland Gold – Khabarovsk krai and Chita region, Polimetall – Sverdlovsk region and Khabarovsk krai.

It turned out that 2005 will become a breaking year and Norilsk Nickel intends to be the first to upset the balance of powers.
