The officers of Vnukovo Airport customs arrested a man who came to Moscow from Armenia for jewellery smuggling. 28 11 jewellery items (earrings, pendants, bracelets, chains and rings with gemstones) weighing over 18 kg were confiscated from him.

The planes coming to Russia from jewellery producing countries are under special control in the airports. Thus, in 2004, 66.8 kg of precious metals, 194 ct of gemstones and 90.3 kg of semiprecious stones were found and confiscated.

This year on January 17, over 14 thou jewellery items weighing 42 kg were stopped at Sheremetyevo airport.
