The Ministry of Russia has revealed diamonds mining, export and import data
Russian diamonds mining in 2003 amounted to 33.019 mln ct $1.676 bln worth. In the first six months of 2004 Russia mined 17.763 mln ct $948 mln worth. This information was published by the Ministry of Finance of Russia.
Thus, in 2003 Russia was the first in diamonds mining in quantity, by cost of the gemstones being the second after Botswana. The same position it has this year. The average price of diamonds in Russia is $51 per ct.
As for export, in 2003 Russia was the second after the EU and the first among diamonds mining countries. The average price of diamonds exported from Russia is lower than that in the world market.
In general Russia produces a wider range of gemstones than any other diamonds mining countries.
