Novye Izvestiys informs that Kaliningrad Amber Complex may stop working. If it happens, Russia will be deprived of amber production – Kaliningrad complex is the only amber processing plant in the country. However, it is experiencing now great problems.

The company has changed many managers and directors. Nobody was able to prevent mass amber thefts at the enterprise. Moreover, the equipment is very old and the jewellery produced there is out-of-date. That’s why it is extremely difficult to sell the amber items made at the complex. Thus it ceased to be profitable.

Official statistics shows that 50 tons of amber are mined there annually. In fact this figure is about 400 tons.
