As it has been reported by Rosbalt Agency, Armenia offered new scheme of diamonds buying from Russia.

According to the Minister of Trade and Economic Development of the Republic Karen Chshmarityan, in 2003 Armenian cutting enterprises bought only 130 thou ct of Russian diamonds with the quota being 400 thou ct. The reason for such a decrease was raw diamonds prices liberalisation that took place in Russia in 2003.

Armenia proposes to establish lower price for raw diamonds. Otherwise, the Minister says, there is no point to buy diamonds according to the quota.

Armenia has made an agreement with Russia for diamonds supplies: in 2002 – 2004 the quota is 400 thou ct of raw diamonds, in 2005 – 2006 — 450 thou ct.
