According to the World Diamond Council, Russia has got the status of the Kimberley process’ vice president. This decision was made during the meeting of the process participants in Johannesburg, the South Africa. Canada was elected the chairman of the Kimberley process.

Russia had proposed its candidature for the chairman post — Vyacheslav Shtyrov, the president of Yakutia had been intended to become the representative of the country in the board of the process.
