Norilsk Nickel has surprised insurance companies

MMC Norilsk Nickel has made something extraordinary: it has insured its property in NIKoil-Insurance and not in affiliated Soglasie company. The representatives of Norilsk Nickel explain this deed as the intention of MMC to diversify its risks. Experts, however, suppose it to be unjustified.
Norilsk Nickel is the world’s largest enterprise of non-ferrous metals sector. In 2002 it manufactured 218 000 tons of nickel, 450 000 tons of copper, 932 000 ounces of gold.
The sum of the payment is 498 mln roubles. However, the participants of the agreement pointed out different sums of insurance coverage. Soglasie Company indicated the sum $1-$10 bln. Norilsk Nickel stated it is $1 bln
