Vladimir Kalitin comments on the situation in ALROSA
RBC daily publishes an interview with Vladimir Kalitin, the president of ALROSA Company.
Next week Nyurba concentrating industrial complex of ALROSA Company will open in Yakutia. The project has been realised in two years, with its cost being about $500 mln. The enterprise will concentrate the ore from two kimberlite pipes: Botuobinskaya and Nyurbinskaya.
Mr Kalitin commented the situation in the company, shared its plans for the future. In particular he mentioned that mining volumes in course of the recent ten years had not diminished greatly, they had become stable at the level $1,4-1,6 bln. However, the resources of open mining have become exhausted and the company is striving to put into operation underground mines at the Mir, Udachnaya and some other deposits. In 2003 ALROSA expects to mine diamonds for $1,56 bln, last year this figure being $1,46 bln. ALROSA Company is developing its relationship with foreign investors; it has diamonds mining projects in Angola. As for diamonds cutting and jewellery industry, the company has carried out two projects in this sector: trade and exhibition centre “Almazny Dvor” in Moscow and “ALROSA-Neva” Salon in St.-Petersburg.
