According to the Union of gold producers of Russia, in the first quarter of 2003 gold mining volume in Yakutia increased by 116,1% (up to 1 ton 891,7 kg) as compared to the same period in 2002.

Vladimir Fedorov, the deputy minister of industry in the Republic informed that it was planned to mine above 18 tons of gold in Yakutia in 2003. Last year 16,9 tons of gold were mined in the Republic. According to Mr. Fedorov, mining volume increase is connected with the beginning of Yakut mining industry development programme for 2002 – 2006. As a result of the programme, in 2006 gold mining volume is expected to exceed 26 tons of gold.
