On April 29, 2003 the International Conflict Diamonds Conference finished its work in Johannesburg. The delegates from about 70 countries all over the world evaluated the first results of the raw diamonds certification system introduction. This system, having been introduced since January 1, 2003, provides, in particular, the special certificate with detailed information about diamonds manufacturer and importer, diamonds weight and cost. Next phase implies the statistics data exchange between the countries. However, it may cause problems for Russia as nearly all the information about diamonds has “top-secret” status. Russia will be able to disclose the secret information about diamonds as soon as the end of the year. The Ministry of Finance has issued the appropriate amendments to the law “On the Sate secret” to the Government.
