Russian security services have seized some 15 kilograms (33 pounds) of contraband gold in the far east Magadan region, Itar-Tass reported.

The haul, with a market value of 3.5 million rubles (125,000 dollars), was seized from a trafficker who was arrested. The arrested man had bought the gold from inhabitants from the mining area, the report said.

So far this year, 75 kilograms (165 pounds) of contraband gold, most of it bound for overseas, has been seized in the region.
