Export of platinum from Russia is under the threat of interruption

According to the information of Governmental sources, the limits for platinum export are only to be stated no earlier than March 2002. If this information is verified, Russia will not be able to export platinum during the first quarter of 2002. Nevertheless, "Norilsk Nickel" will be free to proceed with export of palladium, as the company holds ten-year export permit.

Such break can have a positive influence on world's platinum prices, as Russia produces around 20% of world's platinum.
