They have described and estimated the ore gold reserves of Kupol deposit. The first interesting examples from Urup were collected in 1989. At that time the deposit, discovered by Vitaliy Danchenko, was named Kupol.

However, the detail exploration of the deposit was started only this summer, when geologists were examining the object more precisely. It turned out that there are 560 g of gold per ton of ore there.

Now this deposit is considered to be the most promising natural object in Sakhalin region.
