Diamond mining countries have decided to cut off the sources of African wars financing series
Since 2003 diamond-mining companies will have to obtain a special certificate in order to import or export diamonds. The certificate is needed to confirm the legal origin of diamonds that partly means they are not so called "conflict diamonds". According to the vice-president of CJSC "ALROSA" and the President of the Diamond Chamber of Russia Sergey Ulin, the final decision will be made during international meeting in Switzerland next September. Sergey Ulin expresses the opinion that this decision won't influence the volume of diamonds import and export in Russia.
Countries-members of Kimberley's process, will award the certificate. The introduction of the certificate has the aim to prevent wars in Africa - "conflict diamonds" mined in Africa are the means of local wars financing.
