The gold reserves in Kolymsky Krai are estimated at 4000 tons and silver at 80,000 tons. The precious metals are discovered in 2000 deposits of alluvial and ore gold and at 48 deposits of ore silver. This information was released by the administration of Special economic zone in Magadanskaya Oblast.
Gold mining accounts for 65% of all output in Magadanskaya Oblast. Susumansky ore processing combine is the biggest producer of the precious metal. In 2000 it is expected to produce 900th ton of gold since beginning of operations.
Magadanskaya Oblast has its gold refinery where raw gold is smelted into ingots. In 1999 the enterprise processed 21 tons of gold that was mined in Kolymsky Krai. Now a silver processing line is being installed at the refinery. This line will be commissioned in 2002 and will produce 700 tons of silver ingots annually.
