SEPTEMBER 24 ![]() Ekaterinburg. The Exhibition of memorial coins opens on September, 24
This exhibition takes place in the Ural branch of the Savings Bank of Russia and is devoted to the 170th anniversary of the first Russian memorial coin issue. It (golden semi-imperial, face value - 5 rubles) was issued in 1832 in honor to the beginning of use in coins production of the gold mined at North-West of Altay. Since then memorial coins have become the indispensable companions of the most significant Russia's events: military victories, monuments creation, jubilees of outstanding public and scientific figures. During the existence of the Soviet Union memorial coining was stopped for nearly half a century. It was only in April, 1965, that the first Soviet memorial coins at face-value of 1 ruble devoted to the 20th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War was issued. Nowadays the Savings Bank of Russia annually puts on the market silver, golden, platinum and palladium coins. On September, 24 the visitors of the exhibition will be able to see all the collection of memorial coins preserved in the Ural Bank of the Savings Bank of Russia including the coins of series "Outstanding military and navy leaders of Russia", "150th anniversary of New Hermitazh", "The football championship in Japan and Korea 2002" etc. There are more than 100 coins made of precious metals presented at the exhibition in all.
