ALROSA is ready to seek new forms of cooperation with De Beers, V.Shtyrov, president of the company said 12 Sep. at the presentation of the De Beers strategy.
ALROSA as a leading diamond producer in Russia covering 25-26% of the world production is still interested in the cooperation and is going to prolong the agreement to be expired in Dec. 2001. But the form of the cooperation should be changed due to the De Beers intention to make the market more competitive and vertically integrated and to center the emphasis on the advertising.
The new agreement is assumed to have more arrangements and less trade relations. The precise form of the new agreement is under consideration for the time being.
Still ALROSA has an intention to speed up the negotiations with De Beers to settle the new agreement ahead of time with respect to certain changes on the market.
