Conference on conflict diamonds is to be held in Russia on July 3-5, 2001. In relation to the forthcoming event many authoritative figures of Russia expressed their opinion on Universal Diamond Cert System.

“Russia is not opposed to the certification of diamonds, since there is a strong system of control over diamonds in Russia. It only makes sense to certify all diamonds because if a diamond doesn’t have a certificate, nobody can be sure it didn’t come from a conflict zone”, said Ararat Evoyan, head of the Russian Association of Diamond Manufacturers.

Problem of conflict or "bloody" diamonds is very acute as guerrila wars in some countries of Africa are financed by illegal diamond turnover.
