JUNE 8, 2001 ![]() Best Diamonds to Stay in State Fund Non-resident firms will be allowed to participate in the auction for Yakutia diamonds. Buyers will be allowed to export diamonds from the country, told yesterday Vice-Premier Alexey Kudrin.
Gokhran of Russia has drawn up corresponding decree by President of Russia and set it for further discussion. The terms of diamond auctions are not set, Gokhran and ALROSA do not announce this information.
Debate on this sale were very hot. Firstly, Vremya Novostei correspondent obtained information that "specials" (diamonds over 10.8 c of weigh) would be sold but not the unique ones. But it turned out to be false.
Another point which caused discussions related to the fact that ALROSA insisted on sale of unique diamonds from the State Funds but not the stones at ALROSA's disposal. It is noteworthy that the best and the most pure diamonds are bought by the State i.e. Gokhran. But this variant was not backed by Valery Rudakov.
It seems that sale of unique diamonds caused a great effect in publicity. "Sale of unique diamonds is to be very accurate. Knowing Yakutia need money for the diamonds buyers will be inclined to pay less. It can't be a campaign. Every single stone is to be bidded!"
