MAY 30 ![]() Russia increases its gold manufacture by 43% during the period from January toApril 2002
In January-April 2002 Russia increased its gold production by 43% or by 7,2 tons, compare to the figures of the same period of the previous year. This was reported by Valery Braiko, the Chairman of the Russian Union of Gold Manufacturers. According to Mr. Braiko, the volume of gold mined in Russia grown 44% - up to 20 tons, when parallel and secondary manufacture dropped slightly by 100 kg. The leading areas in production growth became Krasnoyarsk region increasing gold mining by 3,8 tons, Khabarovsk region (1,9 tons) and Magadan Region (1,5 tons). In the meantime Sverdlovsk and Amour regions, republics of Khakasia and Buriatia also showed some progress in gold mining during the same period. During 2001 Russia mined 141,5 tons of gold. According to predictions of the Union of Gold Manufacturers in 2002 Russia will produce 17-20 tons of gold more than the previous year. Interfax
