MAY 26, 2001 ![]() Vladimir Putin Specifies on Announcement of Diamond Sale to Aid Yakutia Answering a number of questions at press conference in Yerevan specified on his announcement on possible sale of diamonds in order to aid Yakutia suffered from flood.
According to RIA Novosti correspondent President of Russia said that he "positively reacted to Yakutia Government to set-off gold loan which was borrowed from the Russian Federation."
"I said that it was possible but didnt't say we were going to do that", said Putin. According to him he didn't mean to say that Russia intended to sell diamonds to Great Britain in order to raise money to aid Yakutia.
