Russia and Germany join their efforts in order to reproduce the legendary Amber Room. This project is scheduled to be completed by March 2003

"Iterfax "has reported that Councilor Shreder had brought to Russia another fragment of Amber Room, which Germans exported during the Second World War.
On Tuesday this relic should be presented to Russia's president Vladimir Putin.
Legendary Amber Room is a unique masterpiece, with the total area of 82 square meters, which was presented to Peter the Great from Prussian king Friedrich the First.
During the Second World War, German Soldiers took the room apart in just 36 hours and transported it to Kenisberg (nowadays Kaliningrad).Since then, more than 300 suggestions has appeared to where the stolen treasure was transported. About a year ago two of its fragments were found in Germany-Florence mosaic and a chest of drawers. Germany has returned these rarities to Russian as a symbol of complete peace making between the countries that had once been at war.
Tzarskoe Selo already has an exact copy of returned panel. Restaurateurs have managed to recreate more than a half of Amber Room. Federal budget has provided about 8 million USD towards restoration works. Now Germans have expressed their wish to contribute to recreating the relic. They have agreed to provide 3,5 million USD to Tzarskoe Selo museum. Most of this money is panned to be spent on "working material", as each meter of this great masterpiece contains anything from 800 000 pieces of amber. An average price for a kilogram of selected amber on world's market is about 250 USD.
