This time he obtained exclusive permit on exporting diamonds from Namibia. Competitiong between De Beers and the businessman becomes more tough.
Namibia Diamonds are considered to be among the best in the world. So there is no secret why two most important dealers at diamond market - De Beers and Leviev - are showing their interest in these gems. After the official refusal of De Beers to be market monopoly exclusive contracts is a way to maintain personal control over the market.
In November 2000 De Beers signed an exclusive trade contract with Botswana, so joint venture of this country and De Beers named Debswana began diamond delivery. In his part, Leviev concluded an agreement with Angola, another promising region Так, в ноябре прошлого года De Beers удалось заключить эксклюзивный договор с Ботсваной - совместное предприятие правительства африканской страны и De Beers под названием Debswana стало поставщиком драгкамней.
