According to him regular profit from diamond sale is one of the main advantages Russia get from trade agreement with De Beers. The current trade agreement expires at the end of 2001.
Clark stressed that De Beers is trying to conclude a new agreement with Russia as the company is interested in selling as much diamonds as possible via one channel - Diamond Trading Company (DTC, De Beers trademark).
According to Raymond Clark, at present De Beers produces 50% of the total world diamond volume and will aim to preserve a position of the biggest diamond producer. "We are not leaving, on the contrary, we are firm in our efforts to support diamond market.
