ALROSA to Establish Diamond Exchange in St-Petersburg by 2002
ALROSA Company intends to build a diamond exchange with an expected turnover of $200 mln by 2002 in St-Petersburg, ALROSA President Vyacheslav Shtyrov said. According to him diamond exchange in St-Petersburg which is the third after the exchanges of Moscow and Yakutsk will be probably used not only for rough diamonds, cut diamonds but also for jewellery pieces. He stressed that exchange situated in St-Petersburg will be an organising centre, a king of exhibiting and advertising show of Russian industry, the guests and tourists of the city will be able to learn about diamond cutting, diamond producing and jewellery industry. Allocations of $15 mln are require for establishing the exchange with ALROSA being a foundator.
ALROSA produced 98% of total diamond output of Russia. Annual turnover of the company is $2.2 bn.
