MARCH 16
Moscow Mint has began production of the second lot of Indian coins 5 rupies worth. As reported by the press service of Norilsk Nickel, the company is supplying metal for the coins. In 1999 the Moscow Mint won the tender on minting of 5-rupy coins. This is the very first case in the history of Russian that our Mint is supplying coins for a foreign country. The Indian side carried a grand research and finally decided to give the privilege to Russian produce, which equaled the market leaders - Great Britain and Germany. The Norilsk Nickel perceived the significance of the event and managed to provide the resources for such prices. Besides, the metal was supplied on the terms of merchandise credit. To mint 230 million coins of the second lot the company supplied 2000 tons of metal. Currently Norilsk Nickel is considering the participation in the next Indian order on minting of coin blanks of 2 rupies worth.
