MARCH 7
The management of the Commodity Exchange in Tokyo (TOCOM) has
decided to hold the Futures contracts with palladium up to the 15th of March.
This decision is extended on the contracts concluded beginning from
April to December 2000 as well the contracts for February 2001.
The decision was caused by the recent sudden decrease of the world prices
for palladium and general uncertainty in the market of platinum group,
which harms the investors. The decision concerning the renewal of
operations with palladium can only be made after the management meeting
on March 15,2000. There have been rumors that TOCOM can refuse from
any transactions with palladium. The volume of transactions with this
metal in Tokyo exceeds the volumes of gold and siver, and the prices for
palladium are often influenced by the futures prices at NYMEX and in the
markets of Asia and Europe.
