World diamonds market is experiencing difficulties. The demand for diamonds has declined due to the world economics is recovering slowly and political situation is extremely unstable.

The principal Russian diamonds manufacturer in Russia "ALROSA" Company estimates the perspectives of the market development with restraint. The company's mining volume will increase by only 1,6%.

According to the vice president of Russian diamonds manufacturers Association Ararat Evoyan comments upon the situation in the domestic diamonds market, the volumes of sales are expected to be not large. However, 2003 seems to become not as poor as 2001 for the market. Besides Russian diamonds manufacturers find their niche in the market that is about 7-8%. As for the domestic diamonds market, Russia has its own mechanisms different from the western ones. The demand for diamonds in Russia for the most part does not depend upon economical situation and gross domestic product. That is why diamonds sales volumes are likely to increase.
