Hermitage Exhibition to Explain Why Orda Was Called Golden
On Wednesday "Golden Orda Treasures" opened in the Hermitage. Over 1.000 of items of XIII-XV centuries from funds of Moscow Historical Museum, Joint Museum of Tatarstan, Security Inspection of Heritage of Voroneahskaya Oblast. Latest finds from Nizhnee Povolzhie will be on display there. Exhibit halls are adjacent to the main exposition that is devoted to Golden Orda history.
The Hermitage press service stressed to RIA Novosti that this exhibition is the first devoted to the most western of the countries formed in XIII after the death of Chingiz-khan.
The main exhibits of the Exhibition are golden and silver pieces that were made in the Golden Orda by goldsmiths of conquered countries - mongols, percians, polovtsy, Volga bulgars, Slavians and others. According to the Hermitage staff the exhibition makes clear why Orda, which original name was Juchi-Ulus, was called Golden.
