On March 2, 2000 the Central Bank of Russia is issuing into circulation a memorable silver coin worth 2 rubles dedicated to the 200th anniversary of a Russian poet Evgeny Baratinsky.
As reported by the Department of Foreign and Domestic Affairs of the Bank, the coin is made in "proof" technique and is issued in the amount of 5 thousand pieces. It contains 15.55 gramm of pure precious metal and the alloy 925.
The coin is round-shaped and 39 mm in diameter. The obverse and reverse sides are ornated with an ascending rim. The side surface is grooved
On the obverse side in a circle, framed by a rim, there is a relief image of a double - headed eagle and an inscription "Bank of Russia". Along the edges the coin has other inscriptions divided by dots: one designating the coin's worth - "3 Rubles" and the issue year - "2000". Between them are the metal element name by the Periodic Table of Mendeleev, the alloy mark, the Mint abbreviation "SPMD" and the portion of pure precious metal.
The reverse side of the coin contains circled images of the poet in an ornamented frame, roses, a candle, a manuscript and a goose feather in the inkpot. The lower part contains the inscription "E.A. Baratynsky". On the left of the portrait there are dates 1800 and 1844.
The Department of Foreign and Domestic Affairs of the Bank confirms that the issued coin is a lawful money and is to be accepted to its worth for all kinds of payments without any limitations.
