FEBRUARY 28

Handmade artistic weaponry is presented at the show "Blades of Russia - 2000" which opened on February 25 in the Armory of the Moscow Kremlin. More than 50 best weapon designers from the traditional weapon art centers like Zlatoust, Tula and Moscow presented over 112 items. This is the third show of the kind (the first two were held in 1993 and 1998). The guild of weaponry smiths has presented a wide range of modern weaponry, from "historical" and "classical" styles to "avantguard" and "fantasy". Some of the items had been specially made for the show. A unique "historical" display was set up by a Minsk workshop "Kounya" (puppets in male and female costumes of XVII century, an ornamented sword done in the metal etching technique decorated with precious stones and carved ivory). Armor sets of a Russian warrior's of XIII century and a warrior of Golden Horde of early XIV century presented at the show are part of the collection of a master and collector Mikhail Gorelik (Moscow). Two masters - Sergey Danilin (Tula) and Andrey Koreshkov (Moscow) - were privileged with a special right of presenting their works in separate display windows. The show is operating within the framework of a museum reserve "Moscow Kremlin" - Traditional and Modern", intended to support and polularize modern artistic culture of Russia. The show will be on display until May 22.
