This year's largest ecological disaster caused by an Australian gold mining company "Esmeralda" occured in Hungury. The disaster was caused by leakage of cyanide, a deadly poison. As a result some two million people have no drinking water. Serious damage was done to the local environment: the disaster caused death of a large number of birds, wild animals and fish. As stated by the representative of Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gabort Horvat, this is the largest ecological disaster in the year 2000. Hungarian authorities are going to claim that Esmeralda repair the damage done to the environment and economy of the country.
