Only in course of the recent 3-4 years there has been a stable growth in Russian gold mining sector: 154 tons of gold were mined in Russia in 2000, In 2001 - 165 tons, 2002 - 170,8 tons of gold.
Now Russia is the sixth among the world leaders in gold manufacture. It yields to the South Africa, USA, Australia, Indonesia and China. Canada is practically at the same level with Russia in gold mining now.
For the present, no Russian companies enter even the twenty of world gold mining leaders. It may be explained by the fact that after the USSR collapse the State gold mining system has split into numerous small-scale and medium-sized enterprises. Experts observe the process of the property repartition and enterprises enlargement taking place in Russian gold manufacturing sector. It has become possible owing to the changes occurred recently in legislative and economic spheres of Russia.
