The Conference which took place in Moscow in the beginning
of November became a remarkable event in the project development. Russian Jewellry Network and
the Marketing Department of the Jewellers Guild of Russia were responsible for technical and
information support of the Conference, as well as journalist accreditation and advertisement
of RMDK-99.
The Conference was announced not only in Russian jewellry press but also in the
international, including GemKey, Rapaport, Polygon, National Jeweler, Professional Jeweler,
JCK. Rapaport, one of the largest servers in jewellry Internet, made an announcement about
the RMDK-99. The use of the Internet resources was largely discussed at the Conference. Our
representatives had a number of significant meetings. Particularly, the project was of special
interest to the General Executive of Moscow Office of De Beers company R. Clarke.
Two reports were made concerning the Internet. One, made by Konstantiv Lukyanov, the project
administrator, touched upon the prospects of the Russian Internet in general and the structure
of the web site of Assay Office of Russia designed by the specialists of the Net. Specifically,
he noted that the number of web sites and pages on jewellry in the Russian Internet has grown
considerably. The other report, by Igor Danilov, the Executive General Manager of the Marketing
Department of the Jewellers Guild of Russia, highlighted that the Internet is a powerful tool
that can and should work in jewellry industry. The cited facts demonstrate growing usefulness
of the Internet and that this is the technology of the third Millenium.
During the Conference a decision was made about the creation of an integrating server of various
jewellry market participants. At the end of the Conference the representatives of the Russian
Jewellry Network were largely commended for their excellent work.
