No Market Without the Internet


 

Moscow Jewellery Group was responsible for the technical and information support of the conference "Russian Market of Precious Metals and Gems: Today and Tomorrow". Besides the actual reporting of the events on-line Russian Jewellery Network took the responsibility of journalist accreditation and advertising of RMDK-99. The Conference was announced not only in Russian jewellry press but also in the

international, including GemKey, Rapaport, Polygon, National Jeweler, Professional Jeweler, JCK. Rapaport, one of the largest servers in jewellry Internet, made an announcement about the RMDK-99. The link pointed out to the English part of Russian Jewellery Network.

The journalists were able to access the Internet, fax and phones, Xerox and computers during the conference. The issue of the Internet is being more and more widely addressed in reports and discussions at any significant event. Although in Russian the topic is not yet as acute, the RMDK organizers made the discussion part of the conference. The RMDK participants were able to appreciate the Internet facilities and the resources of the server. The administration of the Internet project had a number of meetings with heads of state and commercial organizations. Particularly, the project was of special interest to the General Executive of Moscow Office of De Beers company R. Clarke. (the first on the left at the picture) .

Two reports were made concerning the Internet. One, made by Konstantiv Lukyanov, the project administrator, touched upon the prospects of the Russian Internet in general and the structure of the web site of Assay Office of Russia designed by the specialists of the Net. Specifically, he noted that the number of web sites and pages on jewellry in the Russian Internet has grown considerably. The other report, by Igor Danilov, the Executive General Manager of the Marketing Department of the Jewellers Guild of Russia, highlighted that the Internet is a powerful tool that can and should work in jewellry industry. The cited facts demonstrate growing usefulness of the Internet and that this is the technology of the third Millenium.

In the final statement of his speech Mr. Danilov invited the RMDK-99 participants to contunue the discussion at the server of Russian Jewellery Network. The virtual conference is already in the stage of planning and is largerly supported by all the interested. Made at the conference was a decision on the creation of an inter-branch server

At the end of the Conference the conference curator V. Shinkarenko commended the representatives of the Russian Jewellry Network for their excellent work.
